Policies on Tours and Instruction for Non-Georgetown University Groups

Library Instruction and Tours

We will provide library instruction to non-Georgetown groups on a limited basis to support a well-defined research need that requires Georgetown University Library resources. We do not provide walking tours of the building.

Schedule in Advance

Please contact us at least two weeks in advance to make arrangements. Groups should plan to visit with a clear educational objective in mind. For example, students should have research topics to investigate or library research tools or collections they are ready to use. The best times for visits are during Spring Break (first week of March), summer sessions (mid May through the first week of August), and winter break (mid-December through mid-January). We are not able to accommodate requests for dates in September, October, February, or March after Spring Break.

Grade Levels

The Georgetown University Library collections are designed to support the university’s curriculum. Because these materials are not appropriate for elementary or middle school students, we will provide instruction only for high school age students and above.

Size of Groups

Due to limited computer workstations in the library instruction classroom, groups are limited to 24 individuals. A teacher, librarian, or school library media specialist must accompany classes. Groups of more than 15 must have an additional chaperone.

Borrowing

Borrowing privileges are not available to anyone not associated with Georgetown University. See the library’s web page on visitor borrowing.

Photocoyping and Printing

Copying is $.10 per page. Copiers accept cash or guest cards. Computer printers accept only guest cards. Guest cards may be purchased from library vending machines on the first or third floors. Cost of the card is $1.00; additional money may be added to the card. No refunds are possible for unused monies on the guest card.

To request instruction, please contact the Library Instruction Coordinator. Be sure to provide
• Name of school or group
• Contact person, email, and phone number
• Purpose of visit and educational objective
• Preferred dates and times of visit
• Number of students
