Renovations Completed
The renovated Blommer Science Library was rededicated on Friday, April 19, 1996. In attendance were many of those who were instrumental in bringing about a more pleasant and better-organized library. Representatives from the Science Departments, the College, the Blommer Science Library and the Lauinger Library, the Main Campus Library Committee, the Library Advisory Council, the Division of Facilities, Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates (architects) and Whiting-Turner(contractor), all joined in celebrating the Library's transformation. Dr. Susan Martin, University Librarian, welcomed everyone and Robert Lawton, S.J., Dean of the College, blessed the Library. Dr. Timothy Snyder, Dean of Science, described the central role of the Science Library for science research and expressed his confidence that this renovation was the beginning of needed improvements to the science facilities. Peg O'Rourke, the Science Librarian, thanked all those who helped to accomplish the renovation. Father Lawton's blessing summed up the hopes of all those gathered to celebrate the renovated Blommer Science Library: "Lord, our God, bless this room and all who roam its ROMs. Console them when their computers crash, Watch over their wanderings on the World Wide Web. May technology not terrify them but neither may it tempt them totally from the aging beauty of the printed page. May all our learning be leavened with laughter and love, Now and all our days, Amen."
