INSPEC and EI Compendex Available in Reiss Science Building

INSPEC, produced by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, is the leading English-language bibliographic information service providing access to the world's scientific and technical literature in physics, computers and control, information technology, and electronics and electrical engineering. The service indexes over 4,000 journals, some 2,000 published conference proceedings, as well as numerous books, reports, and dissertations. INSPEC is a combination of three indexes: Physics Abstracts, Electrical and Electronics Abstracts, and Computer and Control Abstracts. Now available from computer workstations in the Reiss Science Building, INSPEC through DataStar Web is user- friendly. Choose from two different coverage options: 1969 to date or 1987 to date. Searches performed on the shorter time period will be faster.

Also available to science researchers at Georgetown via DataStar Web is Ei Compendex, a comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering database that regularly monitors more than 4,500 international journals, conference papers, and technical reports. Ei Compendex covers conference material beginning in 1982, while coverage of all other material begins in 1976. This database is not only valuable for scientists engaged in broad engineering fields, but also for those in related disciplines such as biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science, materials science, management science, mathematics, and solid state physics.

To access INSPEC or Ei Compendex, you must use a computer in the Reiss Science Building. Go to the Blommer Science Library's homepage and select Resources. Then under the "Electronic Databases" heading halfway down the page, click on Science & Technology, where you will find a list of the science databases available. You can also go directly to DataStar Web by using the URL <http://www.datastarweb.com/georgetown> from your workstation in Reiss.

For more information about INSPEC and Ei Compendex or for assistance in using them, please contact the Science Reference Desk at 687-5651.
