Multimedia CD-ROMS
Enrich Teaching
Do you use a variety of media in your teaching to enhance student learning? The Georgetown University Library has many multimedia titles on CD-ROM that can provide enriching learning experiences and serve as superb reference tools. Multimedia CD-ROMs are available for most disciplines, but some of the best discs have been produced in the areas of art and literature. Features you will find on literature CD-ROMs include searchable full-text works, definitions, plot summaries, profiles of characters, audio presentations, hypertext links, scholarly commentary, and essays on major themes. For instance, the CD-ROM on Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House (MMCD 118) includes 70 minutes of video, allowing students to analyze variations in staging, acting styles, and costuming in conjunction with a close reading of Ibsen's play. Here are a few more multimedia titles available for literature students: American Poetry: The Nineteenth Century (MMCD 47)
Like the literature CD-ROMs, multimedia art CDs include audio narration and video clips as well as searchable databases for looking up terminology. Hundreds of high-quality images can be browsed quickly and easily, and in many cases you can zoom in on the image in order to analyze it more closely. These are some of the art CD-ROMs in our collection: Botticelli (MMCD 92)
Multimedia CD-ROMs are available in the Picchi Electronic Information Resource Center, located on the second floor of Lauinger Library. To recommend multimedia CD-ROMs that you think the library should purchase, please contact Beth Marhanka at (202) 687-7534 or via e-mail at marhankb@ gunet.georgetown.edu. |
